Card Games in Bangkok

If you’re wondering what to do on a Saturday night in Bangkok, check out The Alchemist. With a bar named after Paulo Coelho’s book, what could go wrong? This little bar is tucked away on a side street in the hopping Sukhumvit Soi 11 area. I’m not one for loud clubs and fancy bars, but I am a fan of live music and unusual drinks.

I ordered the drink called Eleven Minutes, which I would guess has to be another Paulo Coelho reference. The drink was oh so good. I then had another drink with lychee in it, highly recommended. We sat outside and the waitress let us order fries from the restaurant next door, which she brought over for us. While we munched on fries, sipped on our drinks and played card games, two Australians played their guitars inside the bar. After being away from home, hearing Elephant Gun by Beirut was a welcome sound. There seemed to be quite a lot of expats in the bar, so it may not be the most local experience in Bangkok, but it’s definitely worth a visit.
